How do you think being born and raised in Tahoe inspires your design aesthetic?
Growing up amidst the stunning landscapes of Tahoe instilled within me a profound appreciation for the raw elegance of nature. The rhythms of life in Tahoe taught me to perceive the delicate interplay between humanity and the environment. This sensitivity deeply influences my design philosophy, where I intricately merge earthy textures and organic materials with contemporary aesthetics, crafting spaces that not only function impeccably but also evoke a serene connection to the natural world.
You perform a large amount of assisting on id.3 projects, where do you go for inspiration?
Our office's expansive library and collaborative environment constantly fuels my creativity. I also draw upon a rich tapestry of experiences: admiring intricate European craftsmanship, antiques, and innovative construction techniques add a twinkle to my eyes. I'm particularly drawn to the tradition and history behind the creative process, constantly seeking to integrate fresh approaches into my residential projects.
Is there an aspect of interior design that often goes unnoticed that you believe deserves more credit?
Interior designers are well versed and resourceful at keeping momentum. Having each tiny detail thought through, designed and delivered in a tight package fosters unified partnerships with clients and tradespeople alike. An Interior Designer glues projects together.
What’s one piece of advice you would give to someone considering hiring an interior designer?
It's essential to find someone who you can share your daily habits, rituals and interests with, this gives the project purpose. I prioritize creating spaces that harmonize with nature while reflecting the client's personality and lifestyle. This comes through a back-and-forth flow of shared information. Often in Tahoe we balance rustic elegance with modern sensibilities, creating inviting retreats that transcend trends and stand the test of time.
What brought you to id.3?
The construction community of Tahoe is tightly intertwined and as fate would have it, our mutual connection started my id.3 journey. After meeting up, Shannon’s magnetic energy and unwavering dedication to design resonated with me, drawing me into this vibrant team. The opportunity to bring my designs to life and join forces with like-minded individuals who share my passion for creating transformative spaces captivated me.

I'm particularly excited to delve deeper into the realm of custom furniture and fabrics, as they offer boundless opportunities for infusing spaces with aura and personalization. My aspiration is to continue pushing the boundaries of design innovation while remaining anchored in the timeless sophistication and organic allure that define my signature style.

As a member of Gen X myself, I appreciate the introspective nature of my generation. Self-examining my thought process has led me to gain deeper understanding of not only myself but also other perspectives. What are a few key elements that must a Tahoe home have?
For me, Tahoe is more than just a place to live—it's a sanctuary that embodies the spirit of the mountains.
Optimizing natural lighting can bring a home to life, wall textures and mirrors make a big impact. A compelling focal point is key in adding interest to each room and gives your eye a place to rest. This could be a vintage object or well-placed light fixture. As an advocate for integrating natural elements like wool rugs, linen curtains, and stone fireplaces, I consider them indispensable design features that not only set the mood but also evoke feelings of warmth, comfort, and a sense of belonging.
What are the most important personality traits to have designing a home and working with both clients and tradespeople?
Effective design and collaboration hinge on genuine connection, clear communication, and mutual respect. By attentively listening to clients' needs and translating their vision into reality, we foster trust and collaboration that enhances every aspect of the design process. Attention to detail, empathy, and a collaborative spirit are essential traits that enable us to navigate the intricate dynamics of designing homes and working alongside tradespeople with grace and professionalism.
What is your current favorite design element?
Beyond design, I find joy in immersing myself in life at the lake. It’s easy to find me spending time outdoors with my family boating, skiing, or enjoying the serenity of a sunset. Teaching my daughter the wonders of the great outdoors and instilling in her a love for adventure brings me immense fulfillment and inspires me to create spaces that celebrate the beauty and tranquility of Tahoe’s alpine landscape. On breezier days you can find me listening to an autobiography, while getting my hands dirty in my flower garden.
What are your colleagues interior design super powers?
Amy’s superpower is in resourcing and material database and Shannon’s in leaving lasting impressions through her instinctive creativity and drive. Both of them continue to impress me by being three steps ahead of the design process and ready to pivot on a dime.
